Fjällräven began in one man’s basement and then branched out all over the world. But our original goal hasn’t changed: to inspire and enable more people to walk with nature. Follow our journey from backpacks and tents to sustainable development and events.
We love wool here at Fjällräven. It’s arguably one of nature’s most functional materials. And you’re most likely aware of its ability to keep you warm by trapping air between its fibres. But did you know that, strictly speaking, wool isn’t an insulator? It’s a heat regulator. This is because it can help you keep your cool as well as keep you warm and cosy.
By all accounts, Evelina Nordin loves nature, travel and hanging out with friends. There is, however, one detail that makes her unique: she’s the granddaughter of our founder Åke Nordin. Here, she shares her thoughts on what it’s like to balance walking in her grandfather’s footsteps, while forging her own path.
Our Brattland wool comes from Jämtlandsfår, a Swedish breed adapted to the cool, challenging climate of central Sweden. The wool is incredibly fine, lustrous and, like all wool, resists dirt and odour, and regulates body temperature.
Re-Wool we’re using surplus wool to make brand new products. Using traditional Italian craftsmanship, the recycled wool is colour-sorted, shredded then blended with other colours to get a unique nuance.
We’ve had fully traceable, ethically-sourced down in our products since 2014. In 2015 we started looking into how we could achieve traceability and better ethics in our wool chain too.
Åke Nordin, founder of Fjällräven didn’t know he was about to create the legendary Expedition Down Jacket. He just wanted a way for his teeth to stop chattering.
Of all the Fjällräven products, the simple and durable Kånken backpack has done the most to propel our brand’s recognition worldwide. And it all began during the back-to-school season of 1978.
